OVERVIEW

ECHOES BENEATH is a First-person, Point-and-click adventure game, with emphasis on environmental storytelling, atmosphere, and horror. Play as Doctor Daniel Okron, who has turned an abandoned cathedral into his dark laboratory, full of wicked experiments.

Moving and looking around is very central in just about any game. In my opinion it is easy to make a character controller, but it takes a bit more effort to make it feel smooth and responsive. I spent some extra time working out how to properly implement these mechanics:

CINEMATIC CUTSCENE

Like in most point-and-click games, most of the puzzles are solved by picking up, and using items in different ways. I first studied other first person games, and observed how items could be picked up and manipulated. I was inspired by games like Skyrim. In the video below I showcase some object interactions in a puzzle that I also designed and implemented.

CINEMATIC CUTSCENE

During this project I had the opportunity to wear many hats, and in a few cases my responsibilities were more of design than of programming. The following cutscene was written, voiced and produced by myself and a classmate:

The 2D art and VFX at the start of the cutscene were also made by me, and were used as dynamic visuals for the start menu.
